Tom and Jerry: Johann Mouse
(Animation 1952 Oscar-winning short film in 1953)

At the home of Austrian composer Johann Strauss lived Johann Mouse. Whenever the composer played his waltzes, the mouse danced to the music, unable to control himself.

This 1952 Oscar-winning animation short was produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). It tells the story of the piano-playing mouse Johann who competes with Tom the cat for the attention of a female mouse named Franzi. The short was praised for its innovative use of music, which was an essential element of the story and the character development. In fact, the animation is entirely synchronized to the music, with the characters moving in time with the notes. Johann Mouse was the fifth Tom and Jerry short to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
