Sylvester and Tweety: Birds Anonymous
(Animation 1957 Oscar Winner 1958)
In this animation featuring Sylvester and Tweety, cats are considered addicted to birds and go through the 12-step process to deal with their addiction, similar to that of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Tweety Bird, Sylvester’s usual target, appears in a minor role as a member of the group. The short film was awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1958, marking the fourth time a Sylvester and Tweety cartoon had won the award. The cartoon is notable for its humorous take on addiction and recovery, as well as for its iconic closing line spoken by Sylvester: „Sufferin’ succotash!”
