The Critic
(Animation 1963 Oscar Winner 1964)
The Critic was directed by Ernest Pintoff and produced by William L. Snyder. The film is a satirical take on the world of art criticism, following the journey of a pretentious art critic as he attends an avant-garde exhibition. The Critic was notable for its use of caricatures of famous artists, including Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh.
A sequence of vibrant animations and abstract forms, sometimes amorphous and surreal, other times geometric and simple, dance to the music of a baroque harpsichord.
