Sundae in New York
(Animation 1983 Oscar winner 1984)
A character who closely resembles the then-mayor Ed Koch sings a version of the theme from the musical „New York, New York” in an animated film made entirely of clay that depicts a variety of locations and celebrities associated with the city of New York.
The film’s unique animation style was created by combining traditional hand-drawn animation with live-action footage, giving it a distinct and playful look. The film’s catchy jazz score, composed by Ken Sutherland, adds to the film’s upbeat and light-hearted tone. The film was directed by Jimmy Picker and John Canemaker and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1984.
